Chemistry Name: Change Your Chemistry Name!

Chemistry Name: Change Your Chemistry Name!Have you ever come across a name that doesn't have a great deal of meaning attached to it, or one that may seem to be nonsense? Has anyone ever told you how you might solve this conundrum, and just for fun you may try thinking about what the person was trying to tell you.There are many people who are actually trying to get their point across, and because of this I will also use their names, as well as those of others. I am going to explain the reason behind the name, as well as making reference to the fact that I personally think the person should not have a chemistry name.For instance, when I was a child's name, I think I was called 'Richie', which is the first name of the person. Now, I am not a boy, so the first name does not represent my gender. So, if your name is richie, which means the same thing as Richie, there is nothing wrong with changing it to 'Robert' to address you as such.You can easily find another name that signifies what y ou are. If you have several relatives who have different names, this is an excellent way to select one that expresses the person's individuality.You could also consult a family member or friend who may have the first name you have in mind. Many people would like to share their names with friends and relatives, and they certainly do not want to be embarrassed. They would appreciate you sharing it, and you can be certain that they will be in a position to assist you in whatever endeavor you are performing.Now you have made up your mind to change your chemistry name, you must always remember that nothing is ever too good to be true. It is up to you to find a solution to the dilemma.In my opinion, you should have a serious case of the jitters if you have to live with the frustration of having to change your name. You must always remember that the right solution may prove to be the life saver, so take the plunge and pick up the new name.

Can You Name Ten Famous French Actors

Can You Name Ten Famous French Actors How Many Famous French Stars Can You Name? ChaptersThe Scandalous OnesThe SirensWhat About Actors?Newsflash: Four of the top ten foreign films of 2018 are French!While American superheroes battle evil at the box office, thought-provoking films of social commentary and the lives of real people are playing on silver screens everywhere.True, they are subtitled: unless you speak fluent French, it would be difficult to follow the rapid-fire dialogue and the sardonic twists of phrases.Still, you will find nary a special effect, nor much CGI â€" computer generated imagery in French language films.There is one extraordinary costume among those four French films mentioned above, but then, race car drivers do wear a lot of protective gear.That was a spoiler!With no masks and capes to hide behind, and no Lycra tights to display taut musculature, French actors really have only one choice: to act.If we were discussing American cinema, we might quip Who was that masked man?, a reference to Batman.As we are discussing French cinema, we'd li ke to know: who are your French favourites of the big screen?From Simone Signoret to Vincent Cassel; from Jacques Audiard to Jean Pierre Jeunet: let us tell you about ours!Or click here to find out why cinema is a national obsession in France.Ten years later, she mysteriously retired from screen, stage and studio, having recorded over 60 songs during her short career, and made 47 films. Today, she is wholly focused on activism.And, it seems, hatred and disdain!No fewer than five times has she been prosecuted for inciting racial and religious hatred, at one time being charged the highest fine ever imposed in France for that crime.She gave a clue to her irascible temperament when she refused the Legion of Honour award, in 1987.Apparently, she's not mellowed since then!Marion CotillardThis is an actress who had no problems accepting France's highest civilian award. In 2016, Ms. Cotillard was bestowed the very honour Ms. Bardot had refused.Besides that distinction, this French actress i s the proud recipient of a Bafta, a Golden Globe, two Césars and a Lumière Award. What she did to earn them is phenomenal: to date, her films have brought in more than three billion dollars at the box office.Clearly, she is a draw; a magnetic force that few can resist.After all, how many women could pull off such a realistic performance in La Vie en Rose as Ms. Cotillard did in portraying Edith Piaf, the most famous French singer?It is that attraction the tabloids speculated on that sounded the death knell for Brad Pitt's marriage. When they filmed Allied together, there was a rumoured romance...But that is not the only reason why she is on our scandal list.One of her more dramatic moves on the activism front was caging herself in front of the Louvre to demand the release of 30 GreenPeace workers, whereby she staunchly proclaimed herself a climate defender.These three remarkable French actresses, so talented in their portrayal of Everyman â€" Everywoman?, seem to make more use of their social position than merely being eye candy and winning awards.Even if they do so outrageously!The incomparable Ms. Darrieux, pictured here at 91 years young Source: Wikipedia Credit: Studio HarcourtThe SirensBefore we go on, a trivia question: Roger Vadim had a love affair with two of our scandalous sirens. Which ones?The three Dames of French film just discussed no doubt qualify as screen sirens; it is only the extremity of their misdeeds that put them on the scandals list.Now we feature three women of haunting beauty and staggering skill at immersing themselves so completely into their roles that, for the time of filming, they actually become their character.Audrey TautouAmelie, perhaps one of the best known French movies worldwide, earned Audrey Tautou international acclaim as the irrepressibly curious, sunnily optimistic title character.With only a handful of roles beneath her belt before landing the lead in that project, naturally she scored countless awards â€" as did t he film.Since then, she has diversified her stock: comedies, dramas, intrigue, The Da Vinci Code...Although she has made English language films in the past, she firmly insists that she is a French actress, and will continue to work in France.Juliette BinocheShe nursed The English Patient and brought Chocolat to Johnny Depp, and somehow, she finds the time to participate in organisations such as Reporters Without Borders.Often referred to in the press as La Binoche, she has had no issue starring in both English and French production films during her 35 year career. And it looks like there is no stopping her!Isabelle HuppertThe Piano Teacher lead actress has been touted as one of the most accomplished in the world today.And for good reason!With a career spanning nearly 50 years, this Parisian has had the opportunity to emote to the widest range of the human experience: tragedy and despair; comedy and compulsion â€" all with command and precision.For all of that, she has most recently been compared to Isabelle Adjani who, in that film critic's opinion, goes far deeper into agony and passion than this established luminary.Honourable Mention: Danielle DarrieuxIn spite of trying to keep the numbers balanced, casting our vote for 3 scandals, 3 sirens and 3 of the best actor type, this list would not be complete without mention of the phenomenal Danielle.Her career spanned a record 80 years; she was still accepting juicy roles as late as 2010 â€" at the ripe young age of 97.Oh, if we could all be so gifted!This 1962 head shot makes it easy to understand why Alain Delon was a heartthrob! Source: Wikipedia Credit: Stefan KragujevicWhat About Actors?It seems easier to critique actresses because, quite frankly, there is more information about them.By contrast, actors who behave badly are generally not reported on, at least not to the extent that their female counterparts are.Our first actor is a bit of a rebel, though...Gerard DepardieuThere is a question of whether we sh ould  consider Monsieur Depardieu on the list of French actors, as he stated in 2012 that he would give up his French passport, and currently resides in Belgium.Nevertheless, he has made important contributions to French cinema, having starred in The Last Metro, and Jean de Florette â€" which made him an international star.In fact, he is considered the most prolific character actors of all time, having made more than 170 films since 1966.His flair for comedy virtually guaranteed him a role in all four Asterix movies, but he has also been known to star in the occasional thriller.He also indulges in the occasional romantic comedy, as seen in Cyrano de Bergerac, for which he won the Best Actor award at the Cannes French film festival.His popularity has virtually eclipsed his bad boy persona: drink driving, serial womanising and, of all things, voiding his bladder in a bottle on a plane!Alain DelonThis veteran French actor became one of French movies' greatest sex symbols of the 1960s.D iscovered in Cannes by an American talent scout, he was offered his first contract, contingent upon his learning English.He resisted the lure of Hollywood after meeting famed French film director Yves Allegret, who cast him in his debut film.Once engaged to Romy Schneider â€" they met on a movie set, he too has enjoyed his share of romantic relationships and legal troubles.No, the Markovic Affair was not a fictional account of intrigue...Initially associated with the New Wave, this film festival favourite is best known for Breathless â€" one of his earliest roles.A star of innumerable commercial films, he scorned intellectual ventures, preferring action to nudity.Whether a Very Long Engagement â€" pun intended, or a promising ascension, actors and actresses in France thrill French audiences, and those worldwide.The reading of subtitles aside, there is no one genre that defines the quintessential French film, only excellence as portrayed by talented French people on the silver screen .Do you have your own list of the best French films? Is it similar to this one?If you enjoyed this article, why not learn more about the history of French cinema?If you're inspired to find a tutor, searching for French lessons London  produces the most results on Superprof but there is a lot more choice if you look for French lessons online.

7 Famous Guitarists Who Overcame Setbacks - What Ive Learned

7 Famous Guitarists Who Overcame Setbacks - What Ive Learned Suzy S. Making it as a musician isnt always easy but its also not impossible! In this guest post, Ged Richardson from Zinginstruments shares what hes learned from seven  famous guitarists who overcame the odds   Tired of getting knocked back? Feeling like your time as a world-famous guitarist will never come? Downright depressed about trying to make it in the music industry? Yup. I know the feeling. It’s exhausting, isn’t it? But here’s the thing: what you’re feeling is completely normal. In fact, some of the best, most talented musicians experienced the very same feeling as you. Dont believe me? Here are seven  examples of how persistence and dogged determinism helped make the world’s greatest guitarists and musicians. 1. Elvis Presley If I told you the King, yes no other than Elvis Presley, was given his marching orders before his career took off, you’d think I was kidding right? No, I’m serious! Elvis was told by the concert hall manager in the Grand Ole Opry (a famous venue in Nashville) in no uncertain terms “You ain’t going nowhere, son. You ought to go back to driving a truck.” Looking back, that concert hall manager couldn’t have been more wrong. Someone needs to eat several King-size portions of humble pie. 2. Noel Gallagher Before songwriter and guitarist Noel Gallagher shot to fame in the 1990s with his band Oasis,  he endured a lifetimes worth of setbacks. He battled through family strife, expulsion from school, and dead-end jobs but he persevered with his music, writing three of his most popular songs (including Live Forever) in what he referred to as the The Hit Hut (which was in fact a storehouse at the company he was working for at the time!). Did success come quickly thereafter? Not at all. He auditioned as a singer for the popular indie band Inspiral Carpets and was promptly rejected. Instead, they  gave him  a job on the tour crew for two years. Tour crew! Now look where he is filling arenas around the globe. Some achievement, I would say. 3. Django Reinhardt In 1920s France, a bright new star was stunning audiences in the Parisian music halls with his virtuoso guitar playing. He was called Django Reinhardt. At the tender age of 18, Django got his first major gig with English band leader Jack Hylton, quite an accomplishment for an uneducated Romani Gypsy. But tragedy struck soon after. A fire broke out in his caravan and he was badly injured. He injured his left hand, paralyzing all but two fingers on his fretting hand. For many this would be the end of their playing career. But not for Django, who worked out a way to play the guitar using his two working fingers. He went on to create a whole new genre of his own with Stéphane Grappelli, known as ‘Gypsy Jazz,’ and the rest is history, as they say. 4. Paul McCartney Songwriter and bassist Paul McCartney  is the picture of charisma and confidence on stage when you see that old footage of the Beatles. But looks can be deceiving. Sir Paul was prone to bouts of stage fright, often rendering him useless in front of screaming fans. Interviewed by the NME in 2009, he said: “So I remember being on the steps of Wembley Town Hall, literally getting ill with nerves, and thinking, Ive got to give this business up, this is no good.’” If he can play through the nerves, so can you. 5. Pat Martino This jazz musician  is one of the most revered and famous guitarists  in the industry. Was it all a ride in the park for him? Far from it. Pat Martino was already established as a heavyweight guitar player, but at the age of 36 he suffered a brain aneurysm that  put him out of action. And that’s putting it mildly. Surgery resulted in amnesia and loss of his ability to play guitar. Quite a setback for a guitarist. With dogged determination he managed to relearn the instrument, while battling what he called ‘near-suicidal’ levels of sorrow. In 2004, Martino was named Guitar Player of the Year in Downbeat Magazines Readers Poll. Some turn-around, don’t you think? 6. Bob Dylan In the late 1960s, folk-singing troubadour Bob Dylan was pretty untouchable influencing the Beatles, among others. Or so he thought. When he toured the UK in 1966 playing a new electric sound, it quickly became apparent that his audience hated the new sound! Bob and his band were jeered and heckled throughout the shows, culminating in one resentful fan shouting ‘Judas.’ Did he succumb to the pressure and go back to playing folk guitar? Heck no. He powered through, ignored the naysayers and invented a new form of electric folk-based pop. We wouldn’t have classics such as Like a Rolling Stone if he’d given up. 7. Seasick Steve The American blues guitarist Seasick Steve didn’t have it easy on his route to stardom either. Leaving home at the age of 13 to avoid abuse at the hands of his stepfather, he lived as a hobo for many years, catching rides by hopping on freight trains as he sought work as a farm laborer. His rise to stardom didn’t come quickly or easily, but he persisted and eventually established himself as one of today’s best blues guitarists. He attributes much of his unlikely success to his cheap and weather-beaten guitar, The Trance Wonder. But I  think it was more a case of a spoonful of talent and a whole lot of hard work, persistence, and determination. Conclusion So there you have it seven  cases of success against all odds. It’s both humbling and motivating to learn that these famous guitarists were knocked back in some way,  but crucially overcame their obstacles to come  up on top. The lesson here? Frustration and adversity can help you   if you use it to fire you up. Never give up. If you want it badly enough, you can make it happen! Classical guitarist Andres Segovia famously said: The day I stop playing guitar will be the day after my death. Now there’s perseverance! Ged Richardson is an avid guitarist and blogger who writes about how to improve your guitar playing at Zinginstruments.   Need Private Lessons? Why Do Kids with ADHD Seem to Hyperfocus on Some Things and Not Focus at All on Others

Why Do Kids with ADHD Seem to Hyperfocus on Some Things and Not Focus at All on Others My child can focus on things when he wants to. In fact, when hes really interested in something, he focuses better than other kids hes hyperfocused. Hes the opposite of distracted! I just wish hed choose to hyperfocus on the important things, like homework. If you are the parent of a child with ADHD, this may sound strikingly familiar. Many of the parents I have worked with describe their child as someone who can hyperfocus on a few high-interest activities, but seem to be unable to focus on less enjoyable tasks, like homework. While the targets of hyperfocused attention vary from child to child (e.g., Legos, video games, books, etc.), across the board parents are bewildered by their childs ability to focus so well on some things and not at all on others. Parents often say that they feel frustrated by their childs seemingly willful choice to focus well only when he or she is engaged in an activity that he or she enjoys. For frustrated, perplexed parents, its often helpful to start by shifting the way we talk about and conceptualize the ability to focus within the context of ADHD. We often talk about a child, teen, or adult with ADHD as completely lacking the ability to pay attention. In reality, most people with ADHD can focus very well at times, and many can in fact hyperfocus on some activities directing 100% of their attention toward the task at hand and blocking out everything else in the room. The core difficulty in ADHD may not be the inability to pay attention, but instead be difficulty in regulating attention. The struggle lies in turning on focused attention at the necessary and appropriate times, adjusting the focus intensity to match the demands of the activity, and turning off focused attention when its time to shift to another task or activity. In fact, some would argue that across the board ADHD should be conceptualized primarily as a disorder of regulation, including difficulties wit h regulating emotion, activity level, and behavior, as well as attention. When we think about ADHD as a disorder that causes problems with regulating attention, it becomes easier to understand why kids with ADHD experience so much variability in their level of attention from one day to the next, and why they hyperfocus on some activities and focus so little on others. There are many factors that influence our ability to regulate attention, including fatigue, hunger, how interesting an activity is to us, the length and complexity of a task, the immediate payoff we get for completing an activity, etc. As parents, there are things you can do to help your child regulate his or her attention and even make the most of his or her ability to hyperfocus. First, make sure your childs basic needs around sleep, nutrition, and exercise are adequately met. If your child is hungry, sleep deprived, has a great deal of pent up energy, or is feeling lethargic from sitting around too much, then address these issues first. Youll be laying a solid foundation for better regulation of attention as well as emotion, behavior, and activity level. Second, be on the lookout for factors that tend to push your child into hyperfocused mode. There will of course be certain high interest activities that pull his or her attention into a hyperfocused state, but there may be other factors as well, like having to complete an assignment just before a deadline, being asked to beat the clock by completing a certain number of problems or worksheets before a timer goes off, being challenged to do something better than he or she has ever done it before, or having to finish an assignment or task to earn a reward or privilege. Hyperfocus triggers will be specific to your child, but once theyve been identified, you can use them to help your child focus when its necessary. Lastly, always have your child complete his or her hyperfocused activities last. Once your child goes into hyperfocus mode, it may be hard for him or her to stop what he or she is doing and shift to another activity. On top of this, it takes more mental energy for your child to regulate his or her attention during less engaging activities than it does when he or she is hyperfocused. So, have your child do less interesting activities first, before he or she is mentally fatigued. Helping your child use strategies to regulate their attention, and make the most of his or her hyperfocus abilities, will go a long way in improving the ability to focus during those activities that he or she doesnt typically enjoy. The Indirect Effects of Independent Reading

The Indirect Effects of Independent Reading Improving Academic Performance “The amount of free reading done outside of school has consistently been found to relate to growth in vocabulary, reading comprehension, verbal fluency, and general information. Students who read independently become better readers, score higher on achievement tests in all subject areas, and have greater content knowledge than those who do not. -Research Journal of the American Association of School Librarians The indirect effects of independent reading are well documented and, in some ways, almost obvious. You can split the effects into two categories: direct and indirect. The direct effects are perhaps the most obvious. The more you read, the more information you’ll accumulate about a variety of topics. If you read about finance, you’ll learn finance. If you read history, you’ll learn more history. If you aren’t a great public speaker, obviously reading a public speaking book can help you improve. In addition, your vocabulary naturally expands, regardless of what you’re reading. Even if you are only reading fiction, you’ll still learn about people, places, concepts, ideas, etc. that apply in the real world. The indirect effects of increased reading are less obvious, but perhaps more important. By reading more, even more fiction, you naturally will improve your command of the English language (spelling, grammar, usage, etc.), reading comprehension skills, ability to apply logic, understanding of cause and effect, and more. In fact, the benefits of reading independently can be downright surprising. According to the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges, there is a strong correlation between independent reading and mathematics achievement. Studies show reading and writing skills not only lead to general academic success, but are also directly valued by colleges and employers as high as almost any other factor. At the same time, we see the average 12th grade reading scores declining in the U.S. between 1992 and 2005. The most surprising study I’ve found was conducted by Dr Alice Sullivan and Matt Brown, who analyzed the reading behavior of approximately 6,000 young people being followed by the 1970 British Cohort Study, which is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council. According to the Institute of Education University of London’s review of that report, “reading for pleasure was found to be more important for children's cognitive development between ages 10 and 16 than their parents' level of education. The combined effect on children's progress of reading books often, going to the library regularly and reading newspapers at 16 was four times greater than the advantage children gained from having a parent with a degree.” Interesting, and luckily or unluckily depending on your situation, the reading comprehension skills can be much more difficult to build quickly. At MyGuru, when we’re helping students prepare for standardized tests, we tend to find that, paradoxically, the most stressed out students are those that are really struggling with the math section of the ACT, SAT, GRE, or GMAT, but those that are truly lacking basic math skills can be the easiest students to help. “We can teach you how to solve quadratic equations by “completing the square” if you’ve forgotten most of the algebra you learned in high school. We can teach you any math that you once learned and have now forgotten. We can even teach you a lot of math that you never learned in the first place. Unfortunately, we cannot re-teach you how to read and comprehend…improving your reading comprehension skills takes time, persistence, and focused practice.” John Easter - Senior GMAT, GRE, ACT, and SAT tutor for MyGuru (John holds a B.A. in English and B.A. in Mathematics, Indiana University-Bloomington, and M.A. in Mathematics) What does it mean to read intentionally? You’ll get the most benefit out of reading more if you do so intentionally. There are actually two contexts in which to interpret what this means, and it goes back to the direct vs. indirect distinction we made above. First, you are reading intentionally if you know you aren’t great at managing your schedule and being organized, and so you buy a book about personal productivity, making to-do lists, using calendar tools, etc. However, you are also reading intentionally if you know that, in 3, 6, 12, 24, or 48 months you’ll be taking a standardized test with a “verbal” component. So, with that in mind, you stop yourself while reading and ask questions like: What was the author’s main point? What evidence does his use to support that point? What type of evidence could be used to challenge the point? Etc. Or, on an even simpler level, I know that a magazine like the Economist is not always easy reading. Even when I try to read it, I sometimes find myself losing the point, but continuing with the article, just trying to pick up whatever info I can, to say that I read it. To read intentionally would always be to challenge yourself to stop, think critically about what you’ve read to ensure you understand the logic, and move on only once you’ve truly understood the paragraph, article, or chapter. You can do this while sitting in a room with your parents, friends, girlfriend, or spouse. They don’t need to know that you’re not just reading, you’re reading intentionally to build your comprehension and critical thinking skills. How to learn more? I’d recommend reading the New York Times, Economist, or Wall Street Journal, anything non-fiction, that you’re interested in, and in particular, historical fiction. Historical fiction is set in contexts which are real, but which involved characters and plots that are fictional. So, they are the best of both worlds in a sense. You can learn a lot of real information, while also being highly entertained. hbspt.cta._relativeUrls=true;hbspt.cta.load(215486, 'f08a3c58-464f-4164-a82e-313b7951bbb2', {});
